OFSTED INSPECTION REPORT – June 2010

The school has been rated as Good in every area including:

  • overall effectiveness
  • capacity for sustained improvement
  • outcomes for pupils
  • effectiveness of leadership and management.

In each main area, the inspectors said:

Teaching and learning

  • Teaching is good … the teachers make lessons interesting, make good use of visits and visitors, and provide the pupils with a wide range of opportunities
  • ‘The pupils enjoy school’ and ‘have very positive attitudes to learning’
  • The pupils are making good progress and their attainment is above average

Pupil care, guidance and support

  • The school has a ‘very caring ethos’
  • The Healthy School award is reflected in the pupils’ well-informed views on healthy eating
  • Their personal qualities are being developed well through a wide range of interesting activities
  • The good care, guidance and support that the pupils receive underpin the positive family atmosphere within the school
  • The pupils say they feel safe in school and all of the parents who responded to the inspection questionnaire agree

Curriculum and other activities

  • The curriculum is enriched by a range of trips to places of interest and visitors to school, which the pupils enjoy
  • The curriculum is well organized and brings together a broad range of opportunities and experiences for the pupils
  • The school’s wider partnerships provide pupils with a good range of activities such as an after-school basketball club and opportunities for those with gifts and talents to attend science, mathematics and art activities at other schools
  • During the course of the inspection, the pupils were heavily involved in National School Sport Week, benefiting from tennis coaching and participating in energetic street-dance sessions
  • Many pupils enjoy the range of sporting opportunities the school provides

Leadership and management

  • The headteacher leads the school well and together with the governing body carries out a range of monitoring activities that provide a comprehensive overview of the school’s performance
  • The effectiveness of the school’s engagement with parents and carers is good
