Friends of Brington - 2010 Year Review

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends

Thanks to everyone who has either helped or attended the events we have done this year.

Our recent event, the Summer Fayre, raised nearly £800.  The BBQ, pony rides, raffle, games and stalls made a great summer event together with the Fire Service who made a quick, noisy exit to do their day job!  The spring term event was the Quiz Night which raised £1750 thanks in no small part to Barclays contribution.

In the autumn term we had the Pamper Evening and School Disco which together raised nearly £500.

We also arranged for Christmas presents for the children, Easter Egg hunt prizes and Barbara’s end of term leaving party with the magician and lots of great cakes which were really appreciated!

The total raised this year achieved our target of £3000 so thanks to the small core team of Karen Smith, Donna Ibbott, Hella Mattingly and Debbie Clewes for helping to make this happen.

Just to keep you informed, Friends money raised last year has been spent on providing enrichment activities for the children.

The teachers have been carrying out Arts activities through the year. Providing an art exhibition for the Church on the theme of Winter landscape and later in the year Hunt Emerson came in to show the children how to create cartoons.

Also Science workshops on Planets and Space and then later in the year Forces and how things move.

A west end theatre group came to present some ideas on drama entitled Jungle Bungle. Class three went to The Black History Exhibition and on another occasion the records office where they looked at medieval documents.

On the sports front we have had Tennis coaching, Street dance and Cheerleading.  Along with the summer trips to Whipsnade and The Black Country Museum which were subsidised by the Friends Fund.

So we hope the children will have some things to remember this year (as well as all that good stuff they have learned too!)

Finally have a great summer break and let our new Head Teacher know if you think you might be able to help on the committee in September.
