Geography

We aim to develop geographical skills by investigating local areas, maps, climates, settlements and features; extending these investigations to national and worldwide regions.

Children are also encouraged to appreciate the impact humans have upon geography and discuss ways in which improvements can be made.

Children are encouraged to develop an awareness of their environment through project and topic work. They are given opportunities to visit places of interest. These experiences are followed up in school in a variety of ways.

Older children have the opportunity to make a residential visit, within years 3,4,5 or 6. In the past, children have visited Everdon Field Centre, Houlgate Village in York and Kingswood, Norfolk.

‘There is a buzz of activity in the classroom today. The children have enjoyed setting up the Travel Agents role play area and are keen to look up places on the globe’. Headteacher Observation 2005
