English

We aim to give children the skills and confidence to communicate their thoughts, feelings and ideas in a clear, interesting and positive way and give them the opportunity to practise the skill of listening attentively in a variety of situations.
Reading is the key to many doors and great emphasis is placed on reading for enjoyment, for interest and information. We aim to give children the skills to read fluently, competently and with expression.
A joy and appreciation of the written word is also nurtured. We have graded reading book materials, which are used in conjunction with other fiction books and a well-stocked library of non-fiction books. We believe in using a variety of approaches in the teaching of reading.
From an early age, children are encouraged to put their thoughts into words and have the opportunity to express themselves by writing carefully and accurately. Spelling and grammar are taught, and children are encouraged to present their work with care and with pride. Handwriting is taught throughout the school.
